It's rare for foreigners to be asked to pay bribes and inadvisable for them to offer bribes. Corruption is a problem but it mostly takes the form of unfair (e.g. governmental to private) cooperation between people who know and trust each other, and is not something that visitors will normally encounter.

Checkpoints are rare, however the police occasionally stop cars at random. Note that the customs zone for Slovakia covers the entire country, so customs officers can even pull over cars which have not been abroad (this particularly occurs on roads within 100 km of the Ukrainian border).
