When it comes to cooking, various options for cooking and heating water are available.

Propane or Butane Gas[edit]

The benefits of gas are the ease of use, the availability of gas globally however the disadvantages are cold weather (butane) and altitude.

Dual Fuel Stove[edit]

The benefits of a dual fuel stove is the ability to use your vehicles fuel. The disadvantages of these stoves are the high maintanance of cleaning the burners and the messy re-fueling process.

Wood[edit]

Lighting a fire and cooking on a fire is often restricted to campsites due to the availability of wood. Wood is often not available on extended journeys.

Charcoal[edit]

Typically available in Southern and Eastern Africa, charcoal is a cheap item to purchase however it has the disadvantage of being messy to handle and cumbersome to pack.
