Visiting Hungary
Give a brief overview of what it's like to visit. How easy is the border, how safe is the country, are there great things to see and do, etc.
Entering Hungary with a Car or Motorbike
Correct as of: (date last confirmed correct)
Required Paperwork
(To check if you need a travel Visa for Hungary, application instructions and fees see: Hungary Visa online application at VisaHQ.com)
List the paperwork required to enter with a vehicle, including number of copies
Process at border
Entering Hungary from another EU country (especially from another Schengen zone country) is fairly quick and easy. If you're entering with a vehicle that has an license plate from another EU country, chances are you won't even be stopped. If you're arriving with a non-EU, or non-Schengen registered vehicle, they will ask for your passport and the vehicle's documents, possibly for your driver's license as well. Provided you have the right visa (same visa requirements apply as in any other EU country), after a quick luggage check, you'll be on your way. The process is the same if you arrive from a non-Schengen country or from a non-EU country, but it might take longer.
Cost of entry
Entering Hungary from Serbia is free of charge, but make sure that you shop for your vignette. The vignette is bought at the shops towards the customs; for example, on the Wien-Budapest motorway. The vignette is registered with last name, first name, address and number of mineralogical plates. The vignette is not a sticker.
Weekly: 2 975 Ft (cars & motos) & 5 950 Ft (Vans up to 3.5 tn)
Monthly: 4 780 Ft (cars & motos) & 9 560 Ft (Vans up to 3.5 tn)
For the latest prices, you can check the official website of the National Toll Payment Services PLC where you can also buy the electronic vignettes online. Be careful when buying a vignette for under 3.5T. If your vehicle is registered for 8 passengers (incl driver) you will need category D2 (not D1).
Permitted length of stay
A foreign registered vehicle can stay up to 6 months in any country within EU.
EU includes: Austria, Italy, Belgium, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Croatia, Luxembourg, Cyprus Malta, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Finland, Romania, France, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Sweden & Ireland
However, you must pay extra attention and study carefully your stay in the Schengen Zone which allows only 3 months every 6 months per year.
The Schengen Member States include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland & Liechtenstein. More info about Schengen Zone Visa at: [[1]]
For example Switzerland, Norway or Liechtenstein belong to the Schengen Zone (which literally means free movement) but in the EU. Also countries like Serbia, Albania, FYROM, Bosnia or Belarus do not belong to any group (EU or Schengen Zone)
