(To check if you need a travel Visa for Italy, application instructions and fees see: Italy Visa online application at VisaHQ.com)
List the paperwork required to enter with a vehicle, including number of copies

Process at border

Briefly describe the process at the border to enter with a vehicle

The Carabinieri (State Police) control non-European vehicles:

  • The compliance of snow tires, with speed and load
  • The bicycle registration plate for the rear luggage rack (Cartello Carichi Sporgenti Omologato)
  • The presence of the oval sticker of the country code stuck to the vehicle

Cost of entry

Free entry, but highways have tolls.

Permitted length of stay

A foreign registered vehicle can stay up to 6 months in any country within EU.

EU includes: Austria, Italy, Belgium, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Croatia, Luxembourg, Cyprus Malta, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Finland, Romania, France, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Sweden & Ireland

However, you must pay extra attention and study carefully your stay in the Schengen Zone which allows only 3 months every 6 months per year.

The Schengen Member States include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland & Liechtenstein. More info about Schengen Zone Visa at: [[1]]

For example Switzerland, Norway or Liechtenstein belong to the Schengen Zone (which literally means free movement) but in the EU. Also countries like Serbia, Albania, FYROM, Bosnia or Belarus do not belong to any group (EU or Schengen Zone)

Extension of stay

Describe the process to extend the permitted length of entry for the vehicle, if possible.

Storing a vehicle and temporarily leaving the country

As there is no stamp of the car on your passport you should be able to temporarily leave (if you intend to leave the country while your bike is stored ask while entering in Italy-EU and update here with fresh news) . You are able to store your vehicle in a motorcycle storage as long as your motorbike can stay in EU so: -As long as your temporary permit for extra EU vehicles -Freedom of visit and stay for every european registered vehicle.

Nearby Milano airport you can find mototouring storage, I went there to visit and they had a little bit less than 100 motorbikes, plus other vehicles from all around the world, they are easygoing helpful and speak good english.

Exiting with a vehicle

Describe the paperwork requirements and process at the border to exit.

Camping in Italy

Organized "pay" camping is common, you can easily find campsites in all the touristic places .
Technically the "wild" or "roadside" camping it's not allowed. with camper vans you can sometimes find free or cheap dedicated parking, with a tent I know people and I personally did some overnight camping using some common sense: find a remote place far from the road, set up the tend in the evening a take it down in early morning, off course no fire... and you can get away with it, but basically it's just sleeping. I feel that is more tollerated in the mountains where there are much less densly habitated areas

List the approximate average price range of camping in organized campgrounds.

List and link to books specifically for camping.

Drinking water

Describe if the regular tap water is safe to drink. If not, describe where safe water can be purchased and the approximate average price range.
