Visiting Belgium[edit]

Belgium is part of the European Union. Motorhomes are relatively common and you will find both paid and free camping areas. Must sees are: Brugge, Flanders Fields, and the Ardenes.

Entering Belgium with a Car or Motorbike[edit]

You can simply drive across a border, take a ferry from Britain, or ship into Zeebrugge or Antwerp.

General Road quality[edit]

The quality of the belgian road network is good. Roads are paved.
One way road can be common in some cities.

Common Speed limits :
50 km/h in cities (while some areas might have lower limits like 20 or 30 km/h)
70 or 90 km/h on undivided highway / single carriageway
120 km/h on highways

Driving on tracks / unpaved roads in forests is not permitted by law.

Toll roads[edit]

For passenger cars / RV there are no tolls that apply.
Some cities have a Low Emissions zones and restrict access to their center. Older cars are not permitted unless they pay a fee. See [[1]] for details.

Police, military (or other) checkpoints should not be expected on belgian roads.

Gas and Diesel Availability / Frequency[edit]

Gas shortages are uncommon.
Gas stations are common and in any place you can probably find a gas station within 30 km. Most station provide unleaded gas, diesel and LPG/GPL.
Stations providing CNG are less common.

No issues with gas/diesel quality.

Discuss driving at night and if it should it be avoided. Mention why.

Camping in Belgium[edit]

There are many organized camping in the country.
Common facilities are showers, toilets, wash basin. Electricity and water hookups for RV are usually available as options.
Price vary depending on location, service levels, month, ... but can be expected between 15 and 30 EUR.

Wild camping is not allowed in Belgium. Some cities have zones where RV can spend the night, sometimes for free or for a fee.
