Visiting Philippines[edit]

Give a brief overview of what it's like to visit. How easy is the border, how safe is the country, are there great things to see and do, etc.

The Philippines is a former Spanish and American colony, becoming independent in 1946. Because of that, most signs and forms are in English and most, especially those that have attended college, speak English.

The country is in general safe, though there are places in Mindanao where there is an active insurgency by Muslim rebels, some with Islamists sympathies.

The Philippines is a tropical island country between where the Pacific meets the South China Sea. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and just lying on the beach are popular. There is some surfing. There are several active volcanoes that can be visited, including by a 4x4.
