COMESA (sometimes called "Yellow card") is liability insurance valid for many Eastern African countries.
Countries that use COMESA[edit]
The following countries in Africa require COMESA insurance, and you will likely be asked for it at the border before you can enter:
Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Burundi, Congo, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland.

The price will vary greatly depending on where you buy it, and how good your negotiation skills are.
In 2018, The Road Chose Me paid $82.00 USD for six months of COMESA for a 4x4. This is the total price for local Zambian Insurance and COMESA. Zambia is known to be a cheap country to get COMESA
In 2017, the Two Monkeys paid about $90.00 USD for 12 months in Kenya, it has to be bought in conjunction with the underlying Kenyan third party insurance for the same period. This cost another $75.00 USD.
In 2013, UnUrban Adventures negotiated the following for their 4x4 Nissan Patrol in Tanzania
- Up to 3 months: $80.00 USD (according to the guys it was the same for 1 to 3 months)
