COMESA Insurance

COMESA (sometimes called "Yellow card") is liability insurance valid for many Eastern African countries.

Countries that use COMESA

Many of the following countries require COMESA insurance, and you will likely be asked for it at the border:
Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Burundi, Congo, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland.

Price

The price will vary greatly depending on where you buy it, and how good your negotiation skills are.
In 2013, UnUrban Adventures negotiated the following for their 4x4 Nissan Patrol in Tanzania

  • Up to 3 months: $80.00 USD (according to the guys it was the same for 1 to 3 months)
  • 3 to 6 months: $100.00 USD
  • 6 to 12 months: $180.00 USD
